Lamar Jackson strengthened his case for MVP on Christmas Day, leading the Baltimore Ravens to a 31-2 victory over the Houston Texans.
Jackson completed 10-of-15 pass attempts for 168 yards with two touchdowns. He also had 87 yards and an additional score on the ground despite only carrying the football four times. Following his MVP-caliber performance, he had a postgame interview with NFL Network personality Jamie Erdahl. She was part of Netflix’s star-studded cast for this year’s Christmas Day doubleheader.
Ravens running back Derrick Henry was also invited to be part of Netflix’s postgame interview. Erdahl offered Henry and Jackson their very own custom football cakes, but neither player seemed interested.
“You can actually break them apart,” Erdahl said. “Lamar, can you break them apart and show everyone that it actually is a cake?”
After Jackson split open the cake, Erdahl decided to take a bite. She then offered the same piece to the star players on the Ravens. Once again, she got shut down.
“I need to eat real food first and then I’ll have dessert,” Jackson replied.
Erdahl then promoted Netflix’s custom NFL cakes before sending the broadcast back to the studio.
Most NFL fans thought this was a painfully awkward interview. It’s tough to blame them for feeling that way.
“This was incredibly awkward to watch,” a fan replied.
Another person said, “Whose idea was it to give NFL athletes junk food?”
“You gotta eat food after a game , cake will spike your blood sugar , and upset your stomach,” a third person wrote on X.
Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were also offered football cakes following their Christmas Day victory.
Mahomes said he was “watching his weight,” so he refused to take a bite. Kelce, however, tried out the cake and offered a brief review. He even said he’d bring the rest of the cake back to the locker room to share it with the rest of the team.
“I’m going to take this into the locker room and get some victory cake,” Kelce said.
Well, at least Netflix didn’t go 0-for-2 with its custom football cakes.
