“Losing Coach Mike is devastating,” Parsons said. “He’s been an incredible father figure, a great coach, and one of the winningest in the game. This isn’t just about football-it’s personal for a lot of us.”
The bond between McCarthy and his players extended beyond the field. For Parsons, who has played his entire NFL career under McCarthy, the loss signals not just a leadership change but also the end of a significant chapter. Parsons acknowledged McCarthy’s role in fostering a winning mentality within the team.
“He’s always treated us well. Losing someone like that hurts. It’s going to be a reset for us, no doubt. But I trust the organization to make the right choices moving forward,” Parsons added.
Despite his disappointment, Parsons emphasized the importance of staying focused and maintaining a championship-driven culture. As the Cowboys’ defensive captain, he remains committed to leading by example.
“We’ve got to keep moving forward. As players, we’re responsible for building a winning culture. Coaches can only do so much-it’s up to us to get it done on the field,” he stated. “I’ve said before that we’re going to hold the Super Bowl trophy, and I believe that with everything I’ve got.”
McCarthy leaves Dallas with an 84-49 record, including three playoff appearances and two NFC East titles. While this past season saw the team slump to a disappointing 7-10 record, McCarthy’s tenure was largely successful, with a career winning percentage of 60.8%.
For Parsons, McCarthy’s departure marks the end of an era defined by personal and professional growth.
