Will cornerback Jalen Ramsey play in the 2024 NFL season opener vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team that drafted him in 2016?
His hamstring injury has kept him out of practice all week, but he did get some good news Friday when the Miami Dolphins gave him a three-year, $24.1 million contract extension, the richest deal for a cornerback in NFL history.
Maybe Ramsey saw the pay day coming.
That post was likely a reaction to the incredible ending of Chiefs-Ravens, but it certainly applies to the well-earned paycheck. It’s no Brinks truck to training camp, but still!

Jalen Ramsey college: He won national championship at Florida State
Jalen Ramsey was a freshman in 2013 when the FSU football team went undefeated and won the national championship. Ramsey played in every game that season, establishing himself early as one of the nation’s premier shutdown cornerbacks.
Ramsey had only three interceptions across three seasons at FSU, mostly because opposing teams were hesitant to throw to his side of the field. He forced three fumbles and recovered two, returning both for touchdowns. In 2015 he was a consensus All-American and was taken with the fifth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by another Florida team, the Jacksonville Jaguars.
How many Super Bowl rings does Jalen Ramsey have?
Jalen Ramsey was the centerpiece of the incredible “Sacksonville” defense that led the Jaguars to the AFC Championship Game in the 2017 season. They fell short of the Super Bowl when Tom Brady and the New England Patriots rallied for the win.
Ramsey got another chance after he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams. After the 2021 season, he got his revenge on Brady when LA beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the playoffs en route to another Super Bowl appearance. Ramsey made four tackles and deflected a pass in the Rams’ 23-20 win in Super Bowl 56.
Jalen Ramsey trades: From Jaguars to Rams to Dolphins
Jalen Ramsey spent his first three-plus seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but his proclivity for off-field antics wore thin with then-front office leader Tom Coughlin. Ramsey pulled up to training camp in 2019 in a fake Brinks truck with comical bags of cash, signifying his desire for a big new contract.
After the Jags got off to a rough start, they traded him in October to the Rams, who gave him a five-year, $100 million deal the following offseason. He stayed in LA until 2023, when the Rams dealt him to the Miami Dolphins to join Xavien Howard to form one of the best cornerback tandems in the league. Ramsey’s Miami debut was delayed by a knee injury suffered in July, but he returned quicker than expected, grabbing an interception in his first game as a Dolphin.
