Darius Slay’s wife had a heartbreaking reaction to the Eagles releasing him on the back of his Super Bowl exploits with the team last season.
Slay’s future is up in the air following the team’s decision to move on from him, although his chapter in Philadelphia might not be closed just yet.
The cornerback wouldn’t have been surprised by the move as he recently discussed the possibility with Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. brown on the latter’s podcast.
“I might re-sign back, hopefully. If I ain’t, I gotta see what we doing because I do want to play one more year, for sure,” he said.
On Monday, it was announced that the Eagles were releasing Slay, who will be a designated post-June 1 release, saving the team $4.3 million against the cap.
The player’s $13.76 million cap hit played into the Eagles’ decision, as did the fact that cornerbacks are rarely as effective in their mid-30s—and Slay is 35.
